The Smiths Arms is a cosy family run country pub in rural Carlton Village.
We are situated in the heart of the village, twelve miles from Darlington, and four miles from Stockton on Tees; we're ten minutes walk from Redmarshall and a short drive from nearby Bishopton.
The Smiths is the only pub in the surrounding area that boasts a separate 40 cover Dining Room and its own Tap Room with a cosy open log fire. In the tap room we take great pride in our cask ales, great products and a wide variety premium gins. Good, honest home cooked food is served in our dining room using the freshest of local ingredients.
The building was built in the 1900's by Irish labourers . The Blacksmith's shop, which is now the dining room was situated next to the bar. Horses were shod while drink was taken. Original features include the two oak beams in the centre of the dining room.
A bit about your Landlord & Landlady, James & Olivia Gray Robson.
James has a successful history in the hospitality industry. He first opened a small sandwich & coffee bar in Yarm with his Mum Christine and Brother Phill. Wanting to branch out to bigger and better things they gained their licences and opened Hash Bar & Kitchen in Darlington. Opened twelve years ago, the bar quickly became one of the most popular bars in the area. Wanting a fresh new challenge, James took on The Smiths Arms with his wife Olivia. Before becoming landlady, Olivia had a successful career in sales & marketing responsible for big contracts within the property industry. With their combined experience they hope to move The Smiths Arms onto great things for the community.
We look forward to seeing you all!
